GENERAL APPEARANCE,

TEMPERAMENT

AND BEHAVIOUR

The Kuvasz is a big dog with long, exuberant, wavy or curly coat, that is always white, but ivory is acceptable. The body is longer than it is high and all parts are in harmony with each other. The muscles are clean and the dog is sturdily built with an average angulation, which enables him to excert himself. As a true working dog, he is untireable. He is livelly but certainly not nervous. He is an attractive sight, partly due to his hanging ears and almond-shaped eyes, combining power with nobility. The long, hanging tail curls up slightly at the tip. He looks dominant and imposing but at the same time elegant.

His temperament can be traced to his past. A Kuvasz is affectionate, but certainly not servient. He is very attached to his owner but will not always show this, given the freedom to do so, the Kuvasz will go on exploration. He also loves to chase game. He will only come back when he is ready himself and not listen to the futile commands of his owner. The Kuvasz is an independant and lively dog who likes to take the intiative, but not nervous. If he isn't given enough space, he can become a real trouble in the home. He will defend the home and due to his independant nature, he can differentiate between friend and foe.

are swimming in the river the Oert in Belgium.

Strangers cannot enter the house without invitation and guidance from the owner. The Kuvasz is dominant and has a lot of spirit, but is certainly not aggresive. He tolerates and accepts smaller dogs and children. He is dependable and is known as child friendly. He wil try to avoid conflicts, but, if problems arise, he always warns first. Some Kuvasz like to swim, others don't.
